Sir Parker in Austin!

Above is a little video of the beginning of the maiden voyage that is to be my new side project with my good friend Robert Harrison that we are calling Sir Parker. We wrote a couple songs last winter that we loved but didnt quite fit on my solo record and he had crafted a bunch of wonderful songs that fit with those. Some for us to duet too! So here I am in Austin again at his studio the Star Apple Kingdom laying down some vocals on James the tape machine. Sadly Robert had to sell the Star Apple Kingdom so this will be the last thing recorded here. The first thing recorded here was one of my favorite records, the Big Picture, from his old band Cotton Mather. More details on Sir Parker soon and hopefully once things get a bit more fleshed out we can let ya'll have a listen to these magical songs.

I've been in a phase of listening to others music lately. The new Flaming Lips Embryonic Ep is really inspiring. If you guys have any suggestions on music you're diggin these days that you wanna share please comment here. Hope all is well!

Side project sounds interesting.

Just tried MGMT's album, I couldn't get into it, they sound like such a Love rip-off to me.

Oddly enough, I'm listening to Hayes Carll and Elbow. Btw, since you're in Austin (really jealous), you should really try a chocolate soda at Nau's Enfield Store. If not for yourself then for those of us stuck across the pond. ;) Oh, it's on West Lynn.

Oooh, new music from you via a "side project". I'm fascinated.

As for music recommendations - I would recommend Julia Haltigan's music (which I now adore) - but you already know it all!

I also listen to a lot of "new shoegaze" (Ringo Deathstarr, Warlocks, The Depreciation Guild, Zaza) also I would recommend Bridezilla from Australia. Good band. Rose Elinor Dougall has a new song out now too. Great voice.

Sounds cool. Are you thinking EP or full-length? Either way, looking forward to hearing more.

A few I've been enjoying lately:

Brine Webb - myspace.com/brinewebb
Deep Sea Diver - myspace.com/deepseadivermusic
Madi Diaz - myspace.com/madidiaz

here's a music video-doc i shot in Scotland with Madi and some other Nashville songwriters: http://vimeo.com/6480401

I would love to hear you sing Crystal by Fleetwood Mac, sung by Lindsey Buckingham. Give it a listen and see what you think.

Solo record? Did I miss something?

I highly recommend the new Kurt Vile record Childish Prodigy. It's reaaaaaally good. I also can't stop listening to the new Sonic Youth, but everyone's heard that by now.

There's a band from Philly I like called East Hundred. They kinda remind me of The Sundays.

Thanks, Nicole, for the side project news and for inviting us to share some of our current music faves! I don't feel like such a knucklehead anymore. ;-) Oh, a good friend just informed me that his daughter scored tickets to see you at The Canopy Club in Urbana, IL. I'm so jealous!

Anywho, the new Madness album "The Liberty of Norton Folgate" is surprisingly good. Muse's "The Resistance" is very interesting, too. Hard to classify. A bit of techno, a dash of Utopia, a few Raspberries leavened with Mercury (if you will), and even a smidge of Badalementi, would you believe?! Yeah, it's a veritable potpourri! I think it's right up your alley, Nicole! :-)

Besides 'Neptune City', my favorite disc to listen to right now is 'Lady Luck' by Maria Taylor. She used to be with Azure Ray, but is doing solo projects now, and her new one is just terrific.
As for suggestion that you might try, have you listened to much of Harry Chapin's music? His storytelling is really good and I think you could do good things to his stories.
