The Black Sea

alrighty folks. sorry its been like a million years since i've written on this thing. lots of new ventures on the horizon. as most of you have probably read columbia and i have parted ways. don't fret, nothing terrible happened. i really enjoyed releasing neptune city with them and all of the help with touring and promo that they gave me. i learned a lot and am definitely grateful for the doors that they opened for me with my career. they gave me a great jumpoff and tis only the beginning. in the end, we just were not a good fit anymore. regardless, the record is ready to be recorded. we are talking to a few good labels that i really like and respect and will have some news to report to you guys shortly on that front so hang tight bunnies.
in the meantime, the black sea (chris, tony, brad and eytan) have been hard at work tweeking the arrangements of songs old and new. and there are lots of new songs! just getting ready for our webster hall show with our friend rhett miller. and our october tour with our carolinian brethren, the avett brothers! we'll also be doing a few solo headlining shows during that tour as well. we'll announce them as soon as they're confirmed.
here are the dates we have so far and you can get tickets online or at the venues. you'll notice that when you buy tickets for us with the avetts online we might not be listed as we are the opening act but i assure you, we're on there. so here ya go:

also, in the upcoming weeks i'm gonna put little band member profiles up on this blog to get you aquainted with the black sea. they are all awesome, talented and funny guys so i'm really looking forward to you guys getting to know them onstage and on blog. haha!
i'll also be posting some lyrics to some of the new songs. i can't post any demos yet but we'll figure something out. in the meantime to that, here is a link to some new songs from our recent bellhouse show: http://www.vimeo.com/6071741

hope you enjoy! can't wait to see you all out at the shows and i'll be hollerin at ya real soon. this week i'm singing at PETTY FEST! its at the bowery ballroom this thursday. tickets are still available but going fast. we're singing petty songs all night. also singing are adam green, members of the strokes, fountains of wayne, the mooney suzuki, the pierces, russell simmons (blues explosion), hymns and many others. its gonna be a blast. ok i'm off now to memorize way too many tom petty songs. oy!

also, Fun Fact: your Ben is the only Michael Jackson representation in my entire music library. so, ya know, i'm pretty much looking to you to be my ersatz Michael Jackson... hope that's not too much pressure. :P

Oh my God, I can't believe it, an artist I like has parted ways with a major label! Oh man, that never happens!

Seriously, Nicole, whoever releases the new record and however it's released, I'm looking forward to it. I hope you and the Black Sea come to Philly soon (or at least somehwere in Jersey that someone without a car can get to and from). I will try not to wear the "Nicole Atkins & The Sea" pin you gave me many moons ago.

Here in Australia they've just started showing 'Later with Jolls Holland. First show up was the one with Metallica, Carla Bruni and you. On the strength of your performance I logged on to iTunes & bought the album.

Any chance of a tour down under?
